近年よく耳にするようになった「ゲストハウス」というフレーズ。

You may hear the word “guesthouse” somewhere these days.

一般的なホテルや旅館と比べて何が違うの？？　どんな人達が利用してるの？？

What are the differences between a hotel, ryokan and a guesthouse?

などゲストハウスの気になる点をまとめてみました。

①宿泊費が安い

ゲストハウスの一番のメリットだと感じるのが、宿泊費がとにかく安いことです。 ホテルや旅館に泊まった場合、1泊で10,000円以上かかることはザラだと思います。そんなにお金が掛かってしまったら、気軽に旅行できないですよね。 それに比べゲストハウスでは、食事が出ない（食事が出る所も有）代わりに1泊あたりの値段が非常に安いです。

The best point of a guesthouse is low room charge. If you stay at hotels or ryokan, it is normal to cost you more than 10,000 yen per night. You might hesitate to travel because of high travel expenses. Compared to hotels and ryokan, you can stay a guesthouse at a cheap price (without meal, sometimes with meal).

ゲストハウスに宿泊したら、ホテルのように個室で寝るということはあまりありません。 ほとんどの場合は、ドミトリーと呼ばれる複数人が1つの部屋で寝泊まりすることになります。ここが安さのポイントでもあります。

At a guesthouse, you do not have a private room. In the most cases, you share a dormitory room with other people. That’s why a guesthouse can provide you low room charge.

これを許容できるかどうかがゲストハウスを利用するかどうかの分かれ道となりそうですね。私は面白いと思うので大歓迎です！当然、貴重品の管理だけはしっかりしておきましょう。

東京オリンピックの開催など、海外から日本への関心増加に伴い、海外旅行客が日本でもゲストハウスを利用する傾向が高まっています。

Even in Japan, foreigners tend to stay at guesthouses rather than hotels as those who are interested in Japan are increasing gradually due to Tokyo Olympics 2020.

不安なのが言語。私もオーストラリアに住んでいた際ゲストハウスに宿泊しましたが、周りはほぼ100％外国人。どうしようかと思った事があります。

The biggest problem is “language.” When I was in Australia, I used to stay at guesthouses. However, I did not know what to do because of my poor English skill.

但し、ここは日本。ゲストハウスのオーナーはほとんど日本人ですし、宿泊客も日本人が必ずいますから一緒になってコミュニケーションを取ってみる事が出来ます。

Do not worry about it!!! Here is Japan!!! Most owners are Japanese and you can find some people who speak Japanese. Therefore, it is not hard to communicate with other guests.

また出川イングリッシュではないですが、身振り～手振りで伝えたい事が伝わり、コミュニケーションが取れてしまう事もしばしば。

Sometimes you can talk with people from other countries with only gestures.

英語が使えないからゲストハウスは利用出来ないと考えているのは大きな間違いです。

It’s not true that those who do not speak English shouldn’t stay at guesthouses.

日本にいながら異文化交流が出来る事もゲストハウスならではの楽しみ方だと思います。
